Stark Talk: Avéli Cellulite Treatment

Cellulite is one of those conditions that diet, exercise, and even plastic surgery do not effectively treat, yet it is one of the most common complaints I hear from patients. If you have cellulite, you are not alone; 90% of women and 10% of men have cellulite. Since women tend to have more fat on their hips and thighs, and the connective tissue structure is different in women, it is important to know that cellulite is not your fault.

Until recently, the best cellulite treatment was to use either a laser fiber to break up the bands beneath the skin or a medical procedure called subcision to break the bands, or Septa, beneath the skin. However, we now have a simple, in-office procedure called Avéli that successfully treats cellulite.

The difference with Avéli is that I use a handheld device to target and release the bands from the inside out manually. Our patients are treated in the office, using local anesthesia to numb the area we treat. The treatment takes less than an hour, and our patients only have minimal discomfort and bruising, with all these issues being resolved quickly. Some patients return to normal in 24 hours, while most resume regular activity within a week.

It is important to note that Avéli does not treat fat, which makes this an excellent treatment to complement liposuction or other fat-reducing surgeries in the operating room. So, we can combine this treatment with other fat reduction or skin tightening procedures during surgery or perform it as a stand-alone treatment in the office.
