An excess fat deposit under the chin can cause self-consciousness about the profile and dissatisfaction with one’s overall appearance. A double chin can make you look and feel heavier than you really are. In the past, a surgical procedure such as a neck lift or liposuction was the only way to remove diet resistant fat under the chin.

What is Kybella?

Kybella treats and corrects submental fullness, colloquially known as a "double chin." Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment to enduringly reduce and destroy fat cells below the chin.

The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body, When these molecules are injected into the under-chin area, fat cells are lastingly destroyed. Once destroyed, they can no longer store or accrue more fat. After completing your Kybella treatments, you will see less fullness under the chin and an improved profile.

How many Kybella treatments will I need?

Every treatment case is different. At StarkMD Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Center, led by double board-certified Philadelphia plastic surgeon, Dr. Stark, time and care is taken to ensure that your custom treatment plan is appropriate to your individual situation. Most patients see success after 2-4 Kybella treatments spaced about a month apart.

The amount of fat that needs to be addressed, along with other cosmetic and medical factors, will determine how many treatments Philadelphia Kybella provider, Dr. Stark recommends. While it may take several treatments to achieve the desired results, those results are made to last. Once completed, further double chin treatment with Kybella should not be expected.

How is Kybella
administered?

Each Kybella treatment lasts 20-30 minutes. First Dr. Stark will apply a grid pattern to the treatment area to guide his injections with precision. He will either apply ice or utilize local anesthesia for your treatments.

Using a fine needle, Dr. Stark will inject Kybella strategically in the treatment area to reduce fatty deposits and contour the profile. After your treatment, you may experience some redness, burning, numbing, or swelling for one to three days. You can return to normal activities immediately after each Kybella treatment. However, it will take 4-8 weeks after completing all treatments for your full Kybella results to be visible.

Could Kybella be right for me?

Kybella is not a weight loss treatment. If you are maintaining a healthy weight but still struggle with disproportionate fat below the chin and on the neck, Kybella could be a welcome solution. Whether the condition of submental fullness arises from aging, weight loss, or you’ve always suffered with submental fullness, Kybella injections may be an appropriate treatment.

Kybella Treatment
Procedure

Kybella treatments are quick and performed in-office in under 30 minutes. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Consultation – During your initial visit for Kybella Philadelphia plastic surgeon, Dr. Stark will assess your concerns, examine the amount of submental fat, and determine if Kybella is the right solution for you.
  2. Preparation A topical numbing agent or ice pack may be applied to enhance comfort before the injections begin.
  3. Injection Process – Using a fine needle, multiple small injections are strategically placed under the chin to evenly distribute Kybella.
  4. Post-Treatment Care – After the procedure, you may experience mild swelling, redness, or tenderness, which subsides within a few days.

Most Philadelphia Kybella patients require two to four treatment sessions about four to six weeks apart to achieve optimal results.

Kybella Recovery & Aftercare

One of the major benefits of Kybella is that it requires little to no downtime. After the procedure:

  • Swelling, redness, and mild bruising are common and typically subside within one to two weeks.
  • Patients can return to daily activities immediately, though strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24-48 hours to minimize swelling.
  • Some temporary numbness, tenderness, or firmness at the injection site is normal as the fat begins to break down.
  • Results gradually develop as the body metabolizes the treated fat cells, with visible improvements emerging over several weeks.

Proper hydration and post-care recommendations from our team will enhance healing and maximize results.

What Results Can You Expect from Kybella?

Kybella is not an instant fix, but rather a gradual chin fat-reduction treatment. Most patients begin noticing a slimmer profile within 4 to 6 weeks of their first session, with final results appearing after completing the full treatment plan.

  • More sculpted jawline and chin definition
  • Permanent reduction of submental fat (fat cells are destroyed and do not regenerate)
  • A youthful, rejuvenated appearance without surgery
  • Enhanced profile and improved facial proportions

Because Kybella permanently eliminates fat cells, results are long-lasting as long as a stable weight is maintained.

How Much Does Kybella Cost?

Kybella cost depends on the extent of fat reduction needed and the number of sessions required to achieve the desired results. On average:

  • Single Kybella session: $600 - $1,200
  • Complete treatment plan: $1,500 - $3,600 (depending on individual needs)

Since Kybella is a cosmetic procedure, it is not covered by insurance. However, financing options and customized treatment packages may be available at StarkMD.
